On the morning of July 5, 2024, Dallas police responded to a disturbance call in the 9500 block of Royal Lane. Upon arrival, officers discovered 47-year-old Unetria Williams inside a residence, suffering from a gunshot wound. Tragically, Williams was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an investigation, authorities identified 40-year-old Demarcus Gates, an acquaintance of Williams, as the primary suspect in the shooting. Gates was arrested and charged with murder.
He was subsequently booked into the Dallas County Jail with bond set at $500,000.
However, in mid-August 2024, a Dallas County grand jury declined to indict Gates. The decision to "no bill" indicated that the grand jury chose not to proceed with criminal charges based on the evidence presented. As a result, Gates was released from jail on August 15, 2024.
