Early that morning, while taking out the trash at his residence in the 12400 block of Starcrest Drive, Thomas was carrying both his garbage and a firearm. According to the San Antonio Police Department, he slipped on a patch of wet, muddy grass, causing him to fall down a slight hill.
During the fall, his firearm dropped to the ground and discharged, resulting in a fatal gunshot wound to his chest. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
The Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed the cause of death as an accidental gunshot wound to the chest. Investigators found the firearm near the trash bags at the scene, supporting the conclusion that the discharge was unintentional. Despite the initial findings, a neighbor reported hearing an argument before the gunshot, prompting the San Antonio Police Department to conduct a thorough investigation. However, no evidence of foul play was found, and the incident was officially ruled an accident.
Thomas, affectionately known as "Woody," was remembered for his fun-loving personality, love of comic book franchises, and his deep affection for his wife, Sarah Jane Broadmeadow, whom he married in 2007. He was a cherished uncle and a valued member of his work team at Spectrum, known for his humor and kindness.
