On August 14, 2024, in Katy, Texas, 53-year-old Kelvin Hinton was tragically killed in a violent incident involving his girlfriend's estranged husband, Michael Maurice Mack. According to reports, Hinton and his girlfriend were asleep in her home on Wells Station Court when they were awakened around 3:30 a.m. by Mack, who had allegedly broken into the residence.
Mack, reportedly wearing a tactical vest and armed with multiple firearms, is accused of assaulting his estranged wife and fatally shooting Hinton in the neck.
Following the shooting, Mack allegedly coerced his estranged wife into further incriminating actions. He is accused of forcing her to shoot Hinton's lifeless body under threat of violence. Subsequently, Mack reportedly wrapped Hinton's body in bedsheets and loaded it into the trunk of his estranged wife's car. The pair then drove over 100 miles to Vidor, Texas, where Mack allegedly disposed of the body by setting it on fire near Old Highway 90. After returning to Houston, Mack released his estranged wife, who then contacted law enforcement to report the crime.
Law enforcement agencies promptly initiated an investigation, leading to the discovery of Hinton's body in Vidor. A capital murder warrant was issued for Mack's arrest. On August 20, 2024, Mack surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody. He has been charged with capital murder and is being held on a $1 million bond. The case has garnered significant attention due to the brutal nature of the crime and the interstate efforts involved in the investigation.
