Peterson, affectionately known as "Granny," was a mother of four children: Kennon, Kaydence, Karter, and Krown. She had filed for divorce from her husband, Eric Pait, in March 2024. Family members suspected that someone close to her was involved in her death, given the violent nature of the crime. However, as of September 28, 2024, the Harris County Sheriff's Office had not named any suspects, and the investigation remained open.
In a related development, on Halloween night, October 31, 2024, Peterson's estranged husband, 38-year-old Eric Pait, was fatally shot in his garage by an assailant wearing a Michael Myers mask. Witnesses reported seeing the masked individual approach Pait and open fire before fleeing the scene. Two of the couple's children were inside the home during the incident but were unharmed. Authorities have not confirmed any connections between the two murders, and both cases remain under investigation.
