On November 10, 2024, at approximately 2 a.m., Corpus Christi Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting on Moultrie Drive, near St. Andrews Park on the city's south side. Upon arrival, they discovered 34-year-old Carlos Alberto Garcia near the front door of a residence, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound to the head.
The investigation revealed that Garcia and the suspect, identified as 34-year-old Cody Ramos, were acquainted.
Earlier that night, Ramos accused Garcia of theft and demanded he empty his pockets. When Garcia attempted to flee, Ramos allegedly fired the fatal shot. A black revolver, believed to be the murder weapon, was found on the living room floor. Additionally, authorities discovered a significant quantity of narcotics and drug paraphernalia at the scene.
Ramos was arrested at the scene and charged with murder. He was detained after being removed from the residence through a front window. Ramos' parents informed police that their son had admitted over the phone to shooting Garcia, believing he was being robbed.
The Nueces County Medical Examiner's Office later confirmed Garcia's identity. His obituary notes that he was born on February 16, 1990, in Tacoma, Washington, and was known for his kindness, musical talent, and willingness to help others.
