On January 28, 2023, 18-year-old Rowan Parham of Soquel, California, was fatally shot at a party in Boulder Creek. The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on the 1000 block of Brimblecom Road, where Santa Cruz County Sheriff's deputies responded to multiple reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Parham suffering from a gunshot wound; despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
