On January 30, 2023, Sonia Ramirez, aged 68, was tragically found shot to death alongside her husband, George Ramirez, 66, and their son, David Ramirez, 43, in their home on Ramona Place in Ontario, California. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene after receiving a report of three deceased individuals. All three victims had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
In the initial stages of the investigation, authorities did not publicly identify any suspects.
However, by mid-February 2023, detectives named 29-year-old Pete Anthony Renteria, a relative of the victims, as the primary suspect in the triple homicide. Renteria is the grandson of George and Sonia Ramirez and the nephew of David Ramirez. At that time, his whereabouts were unknown, and a search was underway to locate him.
The case took a significant turn on September 30, 2023, when Renteria was arrested in Upland, California, following a separate fatal shooting at Memorial Park. In this incident, a 34-year-old man was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators determined that Renteria had a prior altercation with the victim and had returned to the park to specifically target him. Upon his arrest, authorities connected Renteria to the January triple homicide in Ontario, leading to his detention for both cases.
As of now, Renteria faces charges related to the murders of his grandparents and uncle, as well as the subsequent homicide in Upland. The motives behind these tragic events remain under investigation, and the community continues to mourn the loss of the Ramirez family.
