On February 8, 2023, 19-year-old Keyon Hicks was fatally shot in South Los Angeles. The incident began around 8:22 a.m. when deputies from the Compton Sheriff's Station responded to a report of a stolen white vehicle at a business on East Del Amo Boulevard, near Wilmington Avenue and Alameda Street.
Shortly thereafter, the Carson Sheriff's Station received reports of gunfire involving the stolen vehicle and another car.
The pursuit continued until the stolen vehicle crashed in the 7200 block of Avalon Boulevard, near 72nd Street. Upon arrival, Los Angeles Police Department officers found Hicks inside the vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head; he was pronounced dead at the scene. Another individual in the car was injured and transported to a hospital in stable condition.
The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office later identified the deceased as 19-year-old Keyon Hicks, confirming the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the head and ruling it a homicide.
As of now, authorities have not announced any arrests or identified any suspects in connection with Hicks' death.
