Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to reports of a shooting at a residence in the 44000 block of Cerisa Street. Upon arrival, they discovered two men with gunshot wounds to their upper bodies. One of the victims, identified as 29-year-old Sun Valley resident Samuel Ferrell III, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The second victim was transported to a local hospital in critical condition.
The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office later confirmed Ferrell's identity and listed his cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest, classifying the manner of death as homicide.
