On the morning of April 25, 2023, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department responded to a report of an unresponsive male inside a vehicle near the intersection of Alma Avenue and Lodi Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered 26-year-old local resident Jesse Recinos with a gunshot wound to the head. After conducting an investigation, detectives concluded that Recinos had taken his own life, and no foul play was suspected. The next of kin was notified following the incident.
Prior to his death, Recinos had several encounters with law enforcement. In February 2015, he was arrested by the El Dorado County Sheriff for resisting or obstructing a peace officer and assaulting or resisting an executive officer. Later, in March 2018, he was arrested by the South Lake Tahoe California Highway Patrol for driving with a license suspended due to a prior DUI and for unsafe speed under prevailing conditions.
Given the determination that Recinos's death was a suicide, there were no suspects or arrests associated with the case. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department did not pursue any further criminal investigation related to his passing.
