On April 28, 2023, at approximately 3:55 p.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to reports of a shooting in the 11900 block of 162nd Street in Norwalk, California, near Hermosillo Park. Upon arrival, they discovered 55-year-old Jose Luis Tavarez seated beside a park bench, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. Tragically, Tavarez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Witnesses reported observing several Hispanic individuals gathered near the bench where Tavarez was located. After the sound of gunshots, these individuals were seen fleeing northbound through the park, disappearing from view. The Los Angeles County Coroner's office later confirmed Tavarez's identity and determined the cause of death to be multiple gunshot wounds to the chest, ruling the manner of death as homicide.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with Tavarez's death, and authorities have not publicly identified any suspects.
