On June 14, 2023, at approximately 8:20 p.m., a shooting occurred near the 8100 block of Center Parkway in Sacramento's Valley Hi/North Laguna neighborhood. Officers responding to the scene found a man with life-threatening injuries; he was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The victim was identified as 38-year-old Landon Jordan Otha Minnifield Sr., born on April 26, 1985, in Berkeley, California.
He was remembered by family and friends for his genuine love and as a shining star ready for whatever life had to offer.
As of December 26, 2024, there have been no publicly available reports indicating any arrests or identification of suspects related to Minnifield's death. The Sacramento Police Department has not released further information regarding the investigation.
In 2008, Minnifield was arrested in Placer County, California, on charges including possession and transportation of a controlled substance, as well as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. These charges were documented by the Placer County Sheriff's Department.
Minnifield's funeral services were held on July 6, 2023, at Harry A. Nauman & Son Funeral Home in Sacramento, followed by a committal service at Camellia Memorial. Family and friends gathered to honor his memory and celebrate his life.
