On June 22, 2023, just before 3:00 PM, Sacramento County Sheriff's Deputies responded to reports of a shooting near the apartment complex at 7474 La Mancha Way in South Sacramento. Upon arrival, they discovered 29-year-old Kaelin "Demi" Cason unresponsive. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, Cason was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Cason, who was experiencing homelessness at the time, was known to frequent the tunnels south of the apartment complex where he was found.
His death was a result of gun violence, marking another tragic loss in the community.
Prior to his death, Cason had several encounters with law enforcement. In May 2023, he was arrested for attempted robbery and inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant. Earlier, in December 2022, he faced charges for violating a court order intended to prevent domestic violence.
As of December 2024, no arrests have been made in connection with Cason's homicide. The Sacramento Valley Crime Stoppers have highlighted his case, offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. They urge anyone with information to come forward to help bring closure to Cason's family.
