On September 10, 2023, at approximately 6:00 PM, 57-year-old Alphonso Clark was fatally shot in his residence on the 1700 block of 11th Street in West Oakland. Responding officers from the Oakland Police Department (OPD) found Clark with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
The investigation revealed that Clark was a resident of an in-care boarding home.
During the incident, he reportedly attempted to thwart a robbery in progress, leading to his being shot multiple times.
On September 27, 2023, OPD, in collaboration with the Violent Crime Operations Center and the U.S. Marshals, arrested 30-year-old Oakland resident Terri Perry in connection with Clark's death. Perry was taken into custody at his residence without incident.
The Alameda County District Attorney's Office charged Perry with multiple offenses, including murder, first-degree robbery, vehicle theft, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. He was booked into the Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, where he is being held without bail. Perry's plea hearing was scheduled for October 17, 2023.
