On September 18, 2023, at approximately 2:15 a.m., 17-year-old Andres Julian Chavez was fatally shot outside his residence in the 6900 block of 22nd Street in Rio Linda, California. Chavez, who had been pursuing his high school education through an independent study program with aspirations of joining the military, was found unresponsive with at least one gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
