On September 20, 2023, authorities conducted a welfare check at the residence of Margaret Zancanella-Moit, 67, and her husband, Gregory Moit, 68, located in the 6300 block of Harrisburg Place near Stockton, California. Inside the home, both individuals were discovered deceased from gunshot wounds.
Neighbors expressed shock at the incident, describing the area as typically quiet.
One neighbor, Brisa DeLeon, recalled that Margaret, whom she referred to as "Maggie," would often walk her dog in the neighborhood and stop to chat.
Court records revealed that in October 2022, Margaret had filed for divorce from Gregory, with the most recent hearing occurring in March 2023.
As of the latest available information, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office had not confirmed the circumstances leading to the deaths, including whether it was a murder-suicide. No arrests had been made, and no suspects were being sought in connection with the case.
