On November 6, 2023, 33-year-old Autrell Reggie Briggs was found deceased in the 100 block of East Buckthorn Street in Inglewood, California. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's office identified the cause of death as a sharp force injury to the chest, classifying it as a homicide.
Residents in the vicinity reported hearing gunshots and sirens around 2 a.m. on the day of the incident.
One neighbor recounted that a person was found dead in the middle of the street near Buckthorn and La Brea. Despite these accounts, the Medical Examiner's office officially recorded Mr. Briggs's death as occurring in a private residence. When questioned about the discrepancy between neighbor reports and official records, a spokesperson indicated that the information was part of an incomplete report.
The location where Mr. Briggs was discovered is near the Church of God Pentecostal Church and a sober living home, overseen by Bishop Johnny Young, a former member of the Inglewood Unified School Board.
As of now, there have been no public reports of arrests or identification of suspects related to Mr. Briggs's death. The Inglewood Police Department has not provided additional details or responded to requests for comment regarding the ongoing investigation.
Mr. Briggs was born on September 24, 1990, and was interred at Inglewood Park Cemetery on March 28, 2024.
