On December 15, 2023, in Lancaster, California, a tragic road rage incident resulted in the death of 4-year-old Gor Adamyan. The young boy was traveling with his parents to purchase groceries when their vehicle was cut off by another driver near Sierra Highway and East Avenue J. The suspect then pursued the family's car through several streets, eventually pulling alongside and firing multiple shots into the vehicle. Gor, seated in the backseat, was struck in the upper body.
His parents rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead in the early hours of December 16.
Authorities swiftly identified and apprehended two suspects in connection with the shooting. The primary suspect, 29-year-old Byron Burkhart, was charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder, shooting at an occupied vehicle, and five counts of possession of a firearm by a felon. His girlfriend, 27-year-old Alexandria Gentile, was also arrested but was later released without charges. Investigators utilized footage from the victims' vehicle, which captured the suspect vehicle's license plate, leading to the arrests.
Burkhart is scheduled for arraignment on January 22, 2024, at the Antelope Valley Courthouse. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life in prison. The community has expressed profound grief over the senseless loss of young Gor, with local officials condemning the violence and emphasizing the need for accountability. A GoFundMe page established to support the Adamyan family had raised nearly $70,000 as of December 20, 2023.
