On January 6, 2024, at approximately 12:45 p.m., deputies from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department responded to reports of gunshots at a residence in the 1600 block of Hilton Head Court, located in the unincorporated area of El Cajon. Upon arrival, they discovered 41-year-old Jose Benjamin Lopez Valle and his wife, 38-year-old Brenda Valle, both suffering from gunshot wounds. A firearm was found near the couple.
Emergency medical personnel provided aid, but both individuals succumbed to their injuries. Investigators determined that Jose's wound appeared to be self-inflicted, leading authorities to classify the incident as a murder-suicide. The couple had three children, aged 18, 16, and 11, who were unharmed and are currently under care.
The investigation concluded that there were no outstanding suspects, and authorities assured the community that there was no ongoing threat. The motive behind the incident remains unclear. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department has encouraged anyone with additional information to come forward to assist in understanding the circumstances leading up to this tragic event.
