On January 23, 2024, at approximately 10:53 p.m., Antioch Police Department officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire in the unit block of Bryan Avenue in Antioch, California. Upon arrival, they discovered two male victims, 41-year-old Roberto Gonzalez-Lamas and a 59-year-old man, both suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Officers administered first aid until paramedics arrived and transported the victims to a local hospital.
Tragically, Gonzalez-Lamas succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased, while the 59-year-old victim survived despite life-threatening injuries.
Following an intensive investigation, detectives identified two suspects: 53-year-old Lonnie Ray Decker and 61-year-old Steven Robert Kelly, both residents of Antioch. On February 7, 2024, the U.S. Marshals Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force apprehended Decker in Pioneer, California. Subsequently, on February 12, 2024, Antioch Police officers arrested Kelly in Pittsburg, California. Both individuals were charged with the murder of Gonzalez-Lamas and the attempted murder of the surviving victim. They were booked into the Martinez Detention Facility, facing charges of murder, attempted murder, and parole violations.
The Antioch Police Department expressed gratitude to the U.S. Marshals, the Amador County Sheriff's Office, and the community for their assistance in swiftly apprehending the suspects. This case marked Antioch's second homicide of 2024, prompting increased concern and vigilance within the community regarding violent crimes.
As the legal proceedings against Decker and Kelly continue, the community remains hopeful for justice for Gonzalez-Lamas and healing for the surviving victim. Authorities continue to encourage anyone with additional information about the case to come forward to aid in the ongoing investigation.
