On January 29, 2024, 44-year-old Melissa Sue (Garrelts) Long was fatally shot in her home in Alpaugh, California. Her husband, 56-year-old Robert Long, transported her to a nearby hospital in Delano, where she succumbed to her injuries. Authorities arrested Robert Long at the hospital on suspicion of murder.
