On the evening of February 11, 2024, at approximately 8:42 p.m., deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon in the 100 block of Ammunition Road in Fallbrook, California. Upon arrival, they discovered 32-year-old Humberto Melecio suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg. Paramedics transported Melecio to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 10:05 p.m.
Witnesses at the scene indicated that the suspect had fled the area by vehicle. Deputies conducted a search and soon detained 46-year-old Los Angeles resident, Glenn Rosales. Rosales was arrested on suspicion of murder under California Penal Code 187(a) and booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
According to reports, Rosales, who was visiting from Los Angeles, claimed self-defense. Employees at a nearby Rite-Aid store alleged that Rosales had been assaulted by several individuals, including Melecio. They stated that Rosales managed to reach his vehicle, despite having its tires slashed, and pursued the assailants across the street toward a Shell gas station. It was there that gunshots were heard, resulting in Melecio's fatal injury.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Homicide Unit continues to investigate the circumstances and motivations surrounding Melecio's death. Authorities have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers to assist in the ongoing investigation.
