On February 29, 2024, at approximately 1:18 a.m., San Jose police officers responded to reports of a shooting in the parking lot of Park Lane Plaza, located in the 5100 block of Moorpark Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 34-year-old Jose Luis Rodriguez inside a vehicle, suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, Rodriguez was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jose Luis Rodriguez was a well-known tattoo artist in the Bay Area, admired for his talent and dedication to his craft. He was also a devoted father to three young children: Naveah, Xavier, and Leanna. His sudden death left the community in shock and mourning, with many expressing their grief and sharing memories of Rodriguez's positive impact on their lives.
In the course of their investigation, San Jose police identified 30-year-old Sunnyvale resident Dynzel Ghram Brown as the primary suspect in Rodriguez's murder. Brown was apprehended later that evening in Sunnyvale and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on homicide charges. Further investigation led to the identification of a second suspect, 26-year-old San Jose resident Jerald Williams Jr. Williams was arrested on March 8, 2024, at a residence in San Jose and also booked on homicide-related charges.
The motive behind Rodriguez's killing remains under investigation. Authorities have not disclosed whether the victim and suspects were acquainted or the circumstances leading up to the shooting. The San Jose Police Department continues to urge anyone with information related to the case to come forward to assist in their ongoing investigation.
In the wake of Rodriguez's death, a GoFundMe campaign was established to support his children's future and assist the grieving family. The community's response has been overwhelmingly supportive, reflecting the profound impact Rodriguez had on those who knew him. A candlelight vigil was also held on March 3, 2024, outside the Park Lane Lounge to honor his life and legacy.
