On April 9, 2024, at approximately 5:05 p.m., 26-year-old Los Angeles resident Jonathan Orellana was fatally shot near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Vermont Avenue, adjacent to Exposition Park. The incident occurred in a bustling area, close to local street vendors and significant landmarks such as the University of Southern California and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department's Southwest Division, who were patrolling nearby, responded promptly upon hearing gunfire.
