On April 25, 2024, at approximately 3:40 p.m., Anaheim Police and Anaheim Fire & Rescue personnel responded to reports of a shooting at the Tyrol Plaza senior apartment complex, located at 891 S. State College Blvd. Upon arrival, officers discovered 59-year-old Ana Monterrosa, the apartment complex manager, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was immediately transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Witnesses reported that Monterrosa was in her office when 67-year-old resident Brian Lawrence approached and, without provocation, shot her multiple times at close range. After the shooting, Lawrence retreated to his third-floor apartment within the same complex. A SWAT team was deployed and, following an hours-long standoff, entered Lawrence's apartment around 9:30 p.m., where they found him deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Anaheim Police Department has classified the incident as a murder-suicide. Investigators believe that Monterrosa and Lawrence were acquainted, given their roles as manager and tenant, though the exact nature of their relationship remains unclear. Authorities have not disclosed a motive for the shooting, and no other suspects are being sought in connection with the case. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Anaheim Police Department at 714-765-1900 or reach out to Orange County Crime Stoppers at 855-TIP-OCCS.
