On April 27, 2024, at approximately 6:45 a.m., Livermore police responded to reports of a shooting at the La Quinta Inn on Southfront Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered two individuals with fatal gunshot wounds: 21-year-old Christopher Vera of Hayward and 26-year-old Lizabeth Murillo-Rodriguez of Oakland. Both were pronounced dead at the scene, marking Livermore's first homicides of the year.
Investigators identified 30-year-old Yonston Vazquez of Oakland as the primary suspect in the double homicide. Vazquez was married to Murillo-Rodriguez, though authorities have not disclosed the nature of her relationship with Vera. Evidence suggests that Vazquez may have stalked the victims prior to the shooting. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Vazquez obtaining a key from the hotel front desk by claiming he was locked out of his room. He then forcibly entered the room where Murillo-Rodriguez and Vera were later found deceased.
Following the incident, Vazquez allegedly contacted Murillo-Rodriguez's family to justify his actions, claiming a struggle over a firearm led to the fatal shootings. Despite these communications, Vazquez's whereabouts remain unknown. Authorities have issued a warrant for his arrest, considering him armed and dangerous.
