On the evening of May 24, 2024, Anaheim Police Dispatch received reports of a shooting at approximately 7 p.m. in the 900 block of South Anaheim Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers discovered 38-year-old Jesse Barragan, a male resident of Anaheim, unresponsive in a liquor store parking lot. Barragan had sustained at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities immediately launched a homicide investigation into the incident.
Detectives worked tirelessly throughout Memorial Day weekend to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. Their investigation led them to a 16-year-old male suspect, whom they arrested on May 26 in the nearby city of Garden Grove without incident. The suspect was subsequently lodged at Orange County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of murder. Due to his age, law enforcement officials have withheld additional identifying details about him.
