On June 13, 2024, at approximately 11 p.m., 41-year-old security guard Abakr Mohamed Amin was fatally shot while on duty at a CVS Pharmacy located in the Fremont Hub Shopping Center at Mowry Avenue and Fremont Boulevard in Fremont, California. Amin, a resident of Sacramento, had been employed at the store for less than two weeks and was scheduled to transfer to another location shortly.
The incident began when a male customer entered the store carrying a large backpack.
Amin approached the individual, leading to a verbal altercation that escalated rapidly. Witnesses reported that both parties exchanged racial remarks and profanities. The confrontation turned violent, resulting in Amin being shot at least once and the customer sustaining multiple stab wounds, including to his neck. Emergency responders pronounced Amin dead at the scene, while the injured customer was transported to a local trauma center for treatment.
