On June 15, 2024, 41-year-old Miguel Trujillo Gonzalez was fatally shot during a disturbance at a residence in the 1700 block of Conestoga Drive in Merced, California. Merced Police officers responded to the incident around 3:41 p.m. and found Gonzalez inside the residence with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators, after interviewing witnesses and reviewing surveillance footage, identified a 14-year-old boy as the suspect in the shooting.
The juvenile was apprehended at a motel in San Jose on June 17, 2024, and subsequently booked into the Iris Garrett Juvenile Justice Correctional Complex on suspicion of homicide.
Authorities indicated that the disturbance leading to Gonzalez's death may have stemmed from a dispute over money related to narcotics and the possible prostitution of a woman present in the residence. The investigation into the exact circumstances and motives surrounding the incident remains ongoing.
