On June 19, 2024, at approximately 3:25 p.m., Long Beach Police Department officers responded to a call in the 2300 block of Locust Avenue, where they found 43-year-old Myriam Zaragoza in full cardiac arrest, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her upper body. Despite the efforts of the Long Beach Fire Department, Zaragoza was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following an investigation, homicide detectives identified Timothy Campbell, a 35-year-old resident of Los Angeles, as the suspect. On June 24, 2024, Campbell was arrested in Los Angeles by Special Investigation Division detectives and transported to Long Beach City Jail, where he was booked on suspicion of murder. His bail was set at $2 million.
Detectives determined that Zaragoza and Campbell were in a dating relationship, leading investigators to believe the incident was an act of domestic violence. The exact motive remains under investigation. The case has been presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
