On June 30, 2024, at approximately 2:55 a.m., 23-year-old Oxnard resident Anthony Leyva was fatally shot in the 1000 block of East Collins Street in the unincorporated community of El Rio, California. Deputies from the Ventura County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, where they found Leyva suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, Leyva succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
