On the evening of July 4, 2024, 34-year-old Ruby Yolanda Sorto was fatally shot in a vehicle-to-vehicle incident in South Los Angeles. The shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. in the 600 block of West 84th Street. Sorto, who was driving one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead at the scene. A male passenger in her vehicle sustained injuries but was treated on-site and released.
The Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner identified the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the neck, ruling the manner of death as homicide. Sorto was remembered as a beloved daughter, sister, and friend, known for her compassionate nature and vibrant spirit. Her passing left a significant void in the lives of her family and friends.
In the aftermath of the tragedy, Sorto's family sought community support to cover funeral expenses. A GoFundMe campaign was organized by her children, expressing their desire to provide a beautiful service for their mother, whom they described as "the most fun, pure, amazing, and beautiful person."
As of now, the Los Angeles Police Department has not released any descriptions of suspects or vehicles involved in the shooting. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have urged anyone with information to contact them at 877-LAPD-247.
