On July 6, 2024, Arthur Sanchez, aged 37, was fatally shot at a transient encampment near the Rio San Gabriel riverbed and the 105 Freeway in Downey, California. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner determined the cause of death to be a gunshot wound to the torso, classifying it as a homicide.
