An unidentified assailant opened fire, possibly from a moving vehicle, striking Benson and injuring two others. The injured parties managed to transport themselves to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A fourth individual was grazed by bullet fragments but was unharmed, thanks to the protection afforded by his leather jacket.
Benson, a father of two and a dedicated employee at the Berkeley Recycling Center for over a decade, was visiting friends at the time of the incident. His sudden death has left his family, friends, and colleagues in deep mourning.
