On September 22, 2024, at approximately 2:20 a.m., 21-year-old Tyler Elijah Simmons of Magalia, California, was fatally shot in Paradise, California. The incident occurred inside the attached garage of a residence belonging to the brother of 32-year-old Oroville resident, Kindall Alan Woodward. Prior to the shooting, witnesses reported that an argument ensued between groups associated with both Simmons and Woodward. During this confrontation, Simmons entered the garage, where he was subsequently shot.
Following the incident, Woodward was arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting Simmons. However, on September 25, 2024, he was released from custody as the Paradise Police Department and the Butte County District Attorney's Office continued their investigation. Authorities indicated that additional information was necessary to evaluate potential claims of self-defense and defense of home before filing any criminal charges against Woodward.
