On November 10, 2024, 15-year-old Prince Michael Banner was fatally shot at The Marketplace shopping center in Bakersfield, California. The incident occurred around 8:37 p.m.; Banner was transported to Kern Medical, where he was pronounced dead at 9:22 p.m.
The Bakersfield Police Department identified the suspect as 15-year-old Albert Briseño Jr., who allegedly shot Banner during an altercation. Briseño surrendered to authorities on November 12, 2024.
Investigations revealed that both teenagers were armed at the time of the incident and had a prior history with each other, suggesting the shooting was an escalation of a past conflict.
Despite Briseño's surrender, the Kern County District Attorney's Office determined there was insufficient evidence to file charges immediately and returned the case to the Bakersfield Police Department for further investigation.
