In the late hours of a Friday night in McMinnville, Tennessee, the life of 20-year-old Jathan Allen Cagle was tragically cut short. On January 20, 2023, at approximately 11:20 p.m., officers from the McMinnville Police Department were dispatched to a residence on Lance Street following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Jathan Cagle suffering from gunshot wounds. He was a male resident of McMinnville and a native of Warren County.
Emergency medical services transported him to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga for treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries the following day, on January 21, 2023.
An immediate and intensive investigation into the shooting was launched, conducted as a joint effort between the McMinnville Police Department and the District Attorney General's office for the 31st Judicial District. Their collaborative work quickly led to the identification of a suspect. Authorities arrested 37-year-old Jacob Omar Simpson in connection with the fatal shooting.
