William Joseph 'Will' Kinney, a 9-year-old boy, was one of the victims of a tragic school shooting in Nashville, Tennessee. On the morning of March 27, 2023, a heavily armed assailant attacked The Covenant School, a private Christian elementary school. Will, a third-grade student at the school, was fatally shot during the rampage. Two of his 9-year-old classmates, Evelyn Dieckhaus and Hallie Scruggs, were also killed, along with three adult staff members: the school's head, Katherine Koonce,
60; substitute teacher Cynthia Peak, 61; and custodian Mike Hill, 61.
The attacker, a 28-year-old woman who was a former student of the school, fired 152 rounds from a military-style semiautomatic rifle and a handgun. The assailant was killed by police at the scene of the horrific event. Because the sole perpetrator was killed, there were no arrests made in connection with the shooting itself. The incident sent shockwaves through the Nashville community and the nation, adding to the ongoing debate about gun control and school safety.
