On March 27, 2023, Katherine Koonce, aged 60, tragically lost her life during a mass shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee. Serving as the head of the school, Koonce was among six victims, including three 9-year-old students—Evelyn Dieckhaus, William Kinney, and Hallie Scruggs—and two other staff members, Cynthia Peak and Mike Hill, both aged 61.
