On March 29, 2023, a tragic incident unfolded at Prive restaurant in Memphis, Tennessee, resulting in the death of 30-year-old Terrial Alexander. The Memphis Police Department responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 11:15 p.m. at the establishment located in the 6900 block of Winchester Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds in the parking lot.
Alexander was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second victim, identified as Larry Bailey, was transported to Regional One Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Additionally, five other individuals sustained injuries during the incident and sought medical attention at local hospitals.
Investigations revealed that an altercation inside the restaurant escalated, leading some individuals to retrieve firearms from their vehicles and commence shooting. In the ensuing chaos, multiple people were struck by gunfire. Surveillance footage and witness testimonies were instrumental in identifying the suspects involved.
Three individuals were subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the shooting. Damone Joseph Sykes, aged 31, was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and robbery. Video evidence reportedly showed Sykes disarming a male victim who was attempting to restrain another shooter, and then shooting the victim after taking the gun. Sykes himself sustained injuries during the incident. Another suspect, 36-year-old Johnny Sanford, was charged with first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. A witness identified Sanford as the individual who shot Larry Bailey. The third suspect, 28-year-old Kendrick Gray, faced charges including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, and possession of a prohibited weapon. All three suspects were arraigned and had their court hearings scheduled for April 2023.
