In a quiet South Memphis neighborhood, a family dispute over money escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of an elderly man. Robert L. Crutcher, an 81-year-old male, was shot and killed on Monday, April 24, 2023, following a heated argument with his nephew. The incident unfolded inside a residence on Kingsview Drive, shattering the peace of the community and leaving a family in mourning.
According to family members who witnessed the distressing event, the conflict arose from a
disagreement over $15,000. The argument intensified, culminating in the nephew allegedly shooting his uncle. A witness to the shooting described the scene as horrifying, stating that after being shot, Mr. Crutcher collapsed on top of his 90-year-old sister, who was also present in the home.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, the suspect did not flee the scene. Instead, he was reportedly seen calmly walking across the street to a neighboring house where he was residing. This is where Memphis Police officers later located and apprehended him without incident. The suspect was identified as 67-year-old William Shaw.
Following his arrest, William Shaw was charged in connection with the death of his uncle. He is facing a charge of second-degree murder.
