On a Sunday morning in Memphis, Tennessee, what began as a routine stop for gas before church ended in a tragic loss of life. Jeremy Henry, a 20-year-old male, was at a Marathon gas station on Ridgeway Road and Knight Arnold Road on May 7, 2023, speaking with his mother on the phone while filling his tank. The ordinary moment was shattered when a vehicle pulled up and a woman emerged, armed with a handgun.
Surveillance footage from the gas station captured the horrific events that
followed. The woman, later identified as Tanirra Matthysse, approached Jeremy from behind and shot him multiple times in the back without any apparent warning. After he fell to the ground, she reportedly struck him with the weapon and kicked him before getting back into the vehicle, which was then driven away by another individual. Jeremy Henry succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Initially, Matthysse claimed she acted in self-defense. However, the video evidence contradicted her statement, leading to her arrest.
