In the late hours of a Thursday in June 2023, a violent altercation in Huntingdon, Tennessee, tragically ended the life of 43-year-old David Randall Wooley. The male victim was discovered deceased in the front yard of a residence on Westport Road, prompting an immediate investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff's Department, the Huntingdon Police Department, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
The investigation quickly centered on Charles W.
Johnson, a 73-year-old man who owned the property where Wooley, his wife's nephew, was living. An altercation had reportedly occurred between the two men prior to the fatal shooting. In a subsequent interview with law enforcement, Johnson waived his Miranda rights and voluntarily provided a statement. He admitted to shooting Wooley twice with a shotgun, once in the back and a second time in the face.
