On the evening of July 22, 2023, at approximately 10:34 p.m., Oak Ridge police officers responded to a shooting incident on South Benedict Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered 32-year-old Javon Milik Ellis suffering from gunshot wounds. Ellis was promptly transported by ambulance to a local hospital; however, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
