In the early morning hours of October 2, 2023, the quiet of an Oak Ridge, Tennessee neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. When police arrived at a residence on Andover Circle just after midnight, they found 21-year-old Gavin West of Maryville suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, the young man, a White male, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body was subsequently taken to the Knox County Regional Forensic Center for an autopsy.
The Oak Ridge Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation into the shooting. However, details regarding a potential motive or any individuals involved have not been released to the public. Gavin West was a 2020 graduate of Powell High School and was furthering his education in Audio Production at Pellissippi State Community College. He was already making a name for himself as an independent sound engineer, lending his skills to prominent Knoxville venues like Thompson-Boling Arena and the Bijou Theater. Remembered as an Eagle Scout with a passion for music and movies, he is survived by his parents and younger brother. The investigation into his death remains ongoing.
