In the late hours of a Saturday night, a celebration at the Event Center on Highway 51 in Covington, Tennessee, turned into a scene of chaos and violence. On September 23, 2023, gunfire erupted amidst a large gathering, forever altering the lives of many. Among those struck was 20-year-old Tamya Ewing-Somerville. She was critically injured in the shootout and, despite medical efforts, succumbed to her wounds the following day.
Four other individuals were also wounded in the incident, which sent shockwaves through the community.
Described as a happy, positive, and loving young woman, Tamya's death was a profound loss to her family and friends. The Tipton County Sheriff's Office immediately launched an extensive investigation into the shooting. Evidence at the scene suggested the involvement of multiple shooters in and around the venue. For over a year, detectives worked to piece together the events of that tragic night, seeking to bring those responsible to justice.
A significant breakthrough in the case came on October 7, 2024, with the arrests of two suspects. The first to be apprehended was 19-year-old Braylon Parimore, who was taken into custody in Memphis. He faces charges of first-degree murder in connection with Tamya's death, in addition to aggravated assault and reckless endangerment. Later that same day, authorities arrested 23-year-old Myles Stark in Jackson, Tennessee. Stark is accused of shooting two individuals at the event and has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault resulting in injury, and reckless endangerment. Both men were scheduled for a court appearance on October 22, 2024, to face the charges brought against them.
