Summary based on 3 sources
In the early morning hours of August 26, 2015, in Covington, Tennessee, the life of 29-year-old Crystal Shad Herbert-Weathers was tragically cut short. Inside her home at 100 Canterbury Circle, an altercation with her boyfriend, Windal Sherel Edwards, escalated to a fatal conclusion. Herbert-Weathers was shot multiple times in an act of violence that reverberated through the community. The tragedy was compounded by the fact that her children were present in the home at the time of the shooting.

Following the incident, Edwards, then 33, fled the scene, sparking a search by law enforcement. The investigation, a collaborative effort between the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, the Covington Police Department, and the Tipton County Sheriff's Office, quickly identified him as the person responsible for Herbert-Weathers' death. Their efforts led them to a relative's home in Brighton, Tennessee, where Edwards was apprehended later that same day. He was subsequently arrested and booked into the Tipton County Jail.

Windal Sherrell Edwards, also known as “Woo,” faced serious charges for his actions. He was indicted in November 2015 and ultimately stood trial for the murder of his girlfriend. In November 2017, a Tipton County jury found him guilty of Premeditated First Degree Murder, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, and Theft. The jury determined that the murder was committed with a stolen handgun and found the presence of two aggravating factors: that Edwards had prior felony convictions involving violence and that the murder was 'especially heinous, atrocious, or cruel.' As a result of the conviction, Windal Sherrell Edwards was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
