In the Western Heights neighborhood of Knoxville, Tennessee, on the evening of October 4, 2023, a burst of violence cut short the life of 47-year-old Dorian Steeley, a Black male. The incident unfolded at a residence located in the 1300 block of Stair Avenue. Following the shooting, Steeley was not attended to by emergency medical services at the scene but was instead transported by a personal vehicle to the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Despite the swift transport, he was pronounced dead upon arrival, having sustained at least one gunshot wound.
The Knoxville Police Department's Homicide Unit was quickly dispatched to the medical center just after 8:30 p.m. to begin their investigation into the fatal shooting. Their inquiry led them to establish a crime scene at the home on Stair Avenue. While the investigation remains active, detectives have suggested that the motive for the shooting may be drug-related. Authorities believe that there were multiple individuals present at the scene who witnessed the event.
