In a tragic turn of events on the night of April 11, 2024, Alcapone Branch, a 27-year-old male, was fatally shot inside an apartment in the Sudekum Apartments on University Court in Nashville, Tennessee. The incident, which occurred around 11:45 p.m., cut short the life of Branch, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Responding to the scene, law enforcement officers discovered Branch had sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
The investigation quickly led them to a nearby apartment where they located and took into custody 31-year-old Joshua E. Coffee. During the subsequent investigation, a nine-millimeter handgun, believed to be the weapon used in the shooting, was found on a couch where Coffee had been lying.
During questioning, Coffee reportedly admitted to having an argument with Branch just before the shooting. He was subsequently charged with criminal homicide and being a felon in possession of a weapon. At the time of the incident, Coffee was already out on a $16,000 bond for a March 28 arrest related to vehicle theft and two counts of a felon in possession of a weapon. He also had outstanding federal warrants for gun charges. Coffee is a registered ex-con with a prior conviction for robbery.
