On July 6, 2024, at approximately 8 a.m., Knoxville Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting at a residence in the 2700 block of Linden Avenue in the Park City neighborhood. Upon arrival, they discovered 32-year-old Matthew Walker with a gunshot wound. Despite life-saving efforts by Knoxville Fire Department personnel, Walker was pronounced dead at the scene.
Preliminary investigations by the KPD Homicide Unit suggest that Walker was involved in a domestic dispute with family members inside the home. During the altercation, he reportedly brandished a firearm, leading another individual present to shoot him. The person who fired the shot remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. No other injuries were reported.
The individuals involved have been identified and interviewed by detectives. As of the latest available information, no charges have been filed, and the investigation remains ongoing. Upon completion, the findings will be submitted to the Knox County District Attorney General's Office for further review and potential prosecutorial consideration.
Matthew Walker was a graduate of Austin-East High School, class of 2010, and was employed at Knoxville Area Transit. He was baptized at a young age at Canaan Baptist Church, where he attended with his maternal grandmother. He is survived by his parents, children, siblings, and a host of family and friends who loved him dearly.
